About Bast Fiber
Bast fibers are plant-based natural fibers, which are cellulosic fibers found in the phloem of the stalk of bast fiber crops like industrial hemp. Hemp is annual crop with a growth cycle of as little as 90-100 days.
Hemp fiber is very strong. It is one of the strongest natural fibers in the world, but is also very flexable. Hemp fiber is very absorbent, absorbing 30% more than straw. Hemp is naturally antibacterial, durable and has unique structural properties, giving it high-load bearing capacity
Hemp bast fibers can be between approximately 0.91 m (3 ft) and 4.6 m (15 ft) long, running the entire length of the plant. Later in the processing the fibers can be cut into shorter pieces.
Hemp bast fiber posesses a wide range of industrial, commercial and construction applications spanning from construction materials to textiles.
Bast fiber has superior water retention, reducing the frequency of watering. Bast fiber strands are long and durable, making it an effective soil insulation to trap air and protect the soil from temperature fluctuations and plants & trees from extreme cold or heat. The long fiber strands are intertwined, keeping the fiber in place and is not easily disturbed by wind, water and foot traffic. Contains no seeds, minimizes weed growth and is compostable and pesticide-free.
Since Hemp Bast fibers are so good at soaking up liquids, they have had amazing success in the oil industry soaking up spilled oil in oil fields. However Hemp Fibers are great at soaking up liwuid and does so better than and other abosbant. And the plus side is, It’s an all natural 100% plant. |
