Hemp Block

This is an approximate idea of what the HempBlock will look like until we can get some better images drawn up.

Look at our article in Innovation News Network about HempBlock HERE

The HempBlock is a load bearing block made of a Hempcrete type mixture. The ingredients thus far are Hemp Hurd, Water, and lime binder with other structural elements.. This idea is a green, renewable, sustainable way of building. It would replace concrete, wood, Cinder-block, brick, steel, and other methods of building.

What is Hempcrete?

Hempcrete is a building material that is a bio-composite made of the inner woody core (Shiv or Hurd) of the hemp plant mixed with a lime-based binder and water. When it is cured it is hard as a rock, though porous.

Why Hempcrete?

This idea is a green, renewable, sustainable way of building. It would replace concrete, wood, Cinder block, brick, steel, and other methods of building. The current way of building nowadays is not sustainable. Millions of trees are used to build buildings. Trees take a long time to grow, however Hemp can grow to maturity in 3-5 months. Concrete off gasses and causes pollution. Hempcrete does not.

Advantages of Hempcrete:

Non-toxic • No off-gassing • No solvents • Mold resistance • High vapor permeability • Humidity control • Durable • Sustainable • Carbon sequestration • Fire resistance • pest resistance • Passive self-regulation of temperature and humidity • GREAT insulator.

iHempUSA LLC is currently in the research and development stage of this product and hope to have a viable product by the spring of next year. However, we need money to do this. We need money to buy the ingredients , and to formulate the mixture. Along with all the other business expenses of developing a product.

Now more about the product.

HempBlock is a green, renewable, sustainable way of building.

Reason for the HempBlock :

The problem with Traditional Hempcrete is: It is not used as a structural element, IE it IS NOT LOAD BEARING. It is used only as insulating infill between the frame members. The result is a lightweight insulating material ideal for most climates as it combines insulation and thermal mass. The other problem is, it takes decades to fully cure, thus needing a frame to support the building. However, when it is fully cured, It continues to have all the qualities above, and it is solid as rock and can last many hundreds of years. Having it in block form makes it easy to build with, like building with giant hempcrete legos. You can build a simple house with in a day.

There are quite a few companies that make hempcrete bricks. There are various ways they are made. Some put the slurry into wooden forms and left to dry, some are pressed in machines forming a brick, then left to cure. Some companies put supporting structures such as 2×2’s in them so you can use them for load bearing walls immediately. However, the ones that do not have the wooden support structures still require a frame for structural support.

HempBlock on the other hand fixes this problem. Hempblock will be formulated with Hemp Hurd and other natural ingredients. The quantities and mixture of the ingredients are still to be determined as the product is still under research and development. It will cure much faster than regular HempCrete, (exact time unknown at this time, probably with in a week) and will be able to withstand roof and snow loads as well as strong winds.

Uses for the HempBlock:

Building of homes. Any home you can build with wood or bricks you can build with HempBlock. And a lot faster too.

Other Buildings. Since HempBlock is load bearing and cured, you can use them for any building type. From stores, to schools to government buildings, warehouses, apartment buildings, etc.

You can use HempBlock any where in the world. Since in it’s cured state they are like porous rock and work in any weather condition. They will be able to ship or be manufactured, anywhere in the world. Especially great in areas that doesn't have many trees. Since HempBlock has a high R-value, (exact R-Value to be determined but around 40-60) the cost of energy to heat and cool your home or structure is negligible. The insulation factor of the HempBlock keeps the structure at a steady temperature with only minor need of heat or cooling if any, depending on the area you live in. Saving you Thousands of dollars a year in Heating and cooling costs.*

HempBlocks are able to be stacked like giant Legos although they are much bigger. They are a lot lighter than a concrete or cinder-block of the same size. Estimated dimentions of the HempBlock is 1 ft wide x 1ft high x 2ft long. With these blocks, the need for a wooden frame is practically zero, maybe only for windows and doors or decorative. Since they turn to petrified rock they will last for hundreds of years. Not needing a wood frame would save millions of trees that would otherwise be used for building homes and other structures.

These blocks have holes for the water and electrical lines, electrical devices such as switches and outlets, they are easy to put in, as well as water lines and water devices.

The PSI rating thus far is undetermined at this time due to it still being in development.

I am currently working on putting together a team to help develop the HempBlock. I am also looking for investors to invest in this amazing product.

Thank you for your time and support.
